Kom Ombo Temple

Dedicated to Sobek

Pictured on the left is Kom Ombo Temple prior to being unburied. The right photo shows the temple after uncovering and reconstructing it. Also shown in this photo, this structure is unusual that it has dual temples. One is dedicated to Sobek and the other is dedicated to Horus representing duality. Sobek represents dark while Horus light in the pursuit of balance between the two.

Many of the hieroglyphs show the relationship to the function of the dual temples. The image on the left shows Set and Horus in balance pouring ankhs (symbol for eternal life) over the pharaoh. Commonly thought of as enemies where Horus avenges his father’s (Osiris) death by the hand of Set, this hieroglyph depicts a balance of the two. In another hieroglyph (right photo), Horus and Sobek can be seen side by side, enforcing the idea that we cannot have dark without the light. Instead, we are to integrate the two in harmony to achieve spiritual enlightenment.

These photos are taken of Kom Ombo at night and clearly show a serene beauty not found during the harsh daylight. Although tours usually take you to see Kom Ombo during the day while cruising the Nile, these photos reveal that perhaps the best time to view this temple is at night. In the solitude, the spiritual exercise performed there might be enhanced. It is to intuitively see which side of the temple you are inclined to walk. Once you are drawn to one side or the other, you can ask whether you still need work in integrating that side of yourself. Or in the case of being drawn to the side representing the dark (Sobek) may mean that you have fully integrated.

Kom Ombo is not the most notable of the temples commonly seen by tourists to Egypt. However, as shown in these photos, the temple has intricate designs on the columns and much of the color remains on the ceiling as shown on the photo on the right.

Kom Ombo is known for its atypical hieroglyphs. The image above shows an unusual combination. One interpretation is that the ankh with human looking arms and hands is in fact a Human Being. The hands are grasping a staff-like devise often shown held by the Gods. Notice that on each the device is lighter on the right than on the left. Finally, the ankh and devices are in what looks like a boat. Considering the function of the temple related to duality, this hieroglyph could be a representation of the journey that human beings take to balance light and dark, which leads to eternal life.

The top photo shows a variety of devices that are very much like modern-day surgical tools. So much so that someone has taken the time to identify the modern-day equivalent as seen on the right.

As described in the Dendera Photo Page, the ancients possessed technology that rivals ours today and in many instances, exceeds it. It seems over due that we need to re-write history books that give credit where credit is due to our ancestors in Ancient Egypt.

There are two purposes for showing this photo on the right. Taken at of the pit/well, it is said to have contained water. Other underground chambers and corridors exist that seemed to involve water. One purpose comes from Drunvalo Melcheizedek when he first re-introduced people to the Flower of Life material and information obtained from Thoth. This is that Kom Ombo among other temples in Egypt, was a part of the Ancient Mysteries School and in this temple’s case studied intuition while over coming fears. The underground chambers are believed to have been used for initiates to enter, not being able to see where to go. At the same time, crocodiles were released. The initiate was to discern which way would lead to a dead end with crocodiles and possible death or up to safety and light.

The other purpose for showing this particular photo of the well/pit (above) is the large red light orb in the center. This red orb showed up in only one other picture (photo on right). The photo of the orb was "snapped" as the group of facilitators during the November 2005 trip were leaving Kom Ombo and watching this snake charmer. Photographs in and around the Great Pyramid and the ancient temples often reveal  light orbs. It is said that these are Beings in other dimensions. None of us, however, had seen a “red” orb.

A contradiction exists among the Egyptian Guides that spew the Antiquity Department-approved speeches at each temple. On one hand they are proud of their heritage and know that they are a part of one of the Mother Civilizations. In the case of Kom Ombo, they gladly show tourists the mummified remains of a crocodile, but yet refuse to discuss that Sakkara holds millions (yes millions) of mummified animals of different types as described in “Eyes of the Sphinx” by Erich Von Daniken and known about since at least 1926 as documented in the journals of Emily Sands. (See Sakkara Photo page for more details).
